What it is
Light energy passes through the skin and is absorbed at the hair follicle, heating it enough to disrupt future growth while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. Because follicles cycle, only those actively growing respond at any one session, which is why a course is needed rather than a single visit.
Who it is for
Suitable for unwanted hair on the face or body. Effectiveness depends on hair colour and thickness as well as the area treated. Tell us if you have taken Accutane in the last six months, and about any medication or condition affecting light sensitivity or healing.
What to expect
Your eyes are shielded and you will feel warmth with each pulse. Afterwards expect redness and slight swelling around the follicles, usually settling within twenty four to forty eight hours, along with a mild sunburn sensation. A cold compress helps for the first twelve hours. Avoid make up over the area, deodorant, scented products, exfoliating acids, shaving, chlorinated pools and heavy sweating until sensitivity passes. Do not pick if any crusting appears.
Results
Treated hairs take up to four weeks to shed, and during that time they can look as though they are still growing. This is normal. The number of sessions you need depends on the area, the amount and character of the hair and your skin type, and sessions are usually spaced four to eight weeks apart. Avoid sun exposure for fourteen days and use SPF30 or higher.
