What it is
Halo is a hybrid fractional laser, the first to combine two wavelengths in a single device. A non-ablative 1470nm wavelength works in the deeper layers to rebuild collagen, while an ablative 2940nm wavelength resurfaces the very top layer of skin. Treating both at once improves tone, texture and sun damage with a shorter recovery than fully ablative resurfacing. Depth and intensity are set to your skin and how it heals.
Who it is for
Suitable if you have sun damage, pigmentation, uneven texture, fine lines or enlarged pores, and can accept about a week of visible recovery in return for a substantial result. Not suitable if you have taken Accutane in the last six months, have an active skin infection or cold sore in the treatment area, or cannot avoid sun exposure in the months afterwards.
What to expect
Numbing cream is applied before treatment. The treated area feels very warm for the first twelve to twenty four hours, and a cold compress or mineral water spray helps. Expect swelling for two to four days, worst in the mornings, and redness that peaks around day three and settles within a week. On the second or third day the skin takes on a bronzed appearance with tiny dark spots, then becomes very dry before flaking and peeling. That is the treated tissue clearing, and it is part of the process. Cleanse twice a day with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, moisturise generously, and use SPF30 or higher every day from the day of treatment.
Results
Tone and texture improve as the peeling completes, usually within the first two weeks. Collagen continues to remodel for several months afterwards. Sun protection is essential for three months, and a wide brimmed hat for two, both to protect the result and to avoid pigmentation changes.
